Cartography and Geoinformatics for Early Warning and Emergency Management: Towards Better Solutions

The Symposium will be held in Prague under the auspices of His Magnificence Prof. Dr. Petr FIALA, Ph.D., Rector of the Masaryk University, Brno and under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the European Union with participation of three ministries of the Czech government - Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and Ministry of Industry and Trade - Fire rescue Service of the Czech republic, general directorate, Czech Hydrometeorological Institute and in close cooperation with the Joint Research Centrum in Ispra, Italy and EC DG’s. The symposium is supported by international organizations like ICA, ISPRS, ISDE, UNOOSA, JB GIS, and local research and professional organizations such as CAGI, Czech Cartographic Society and NEMOFORUM.

 

This Symposium will tackle topics related to Early Warning and Emergency Management considering:

  • Technology (both software and hardware applicable for Early Warning and Emergency Management)
  • User requirements for geo-information (both management and mobile users)
  • Information providers (data and standards)

The fundamental goal of this Symposium will be:

  • To establish the state-of-the-art in Early Warning and Emergency Management
  • To review tools, software, existing geo-information sources, organizational structures and methods for work in crisis situations
  • To outline drawbacks in current discovery, integration, visualization, analysis and exchange of geo-information
  • To investigate the role of the citizens in EW and EM
  • To make suggestions for future research directions
